The National Humanities Alliance is governed by an eighteen-member Board of Directors composed of six officers and thirteen directors who serve in staggered terms of two and three years. NHA's Board of Directors meets at least four times each year and is responsible for determining all policies of the Alliance except those requiring a vote of the membership. The president, vice president, secretary-treasurer, and nine of the directors are elected by the members of the NHA at the annual meetings. Four other directors are appointed by the Board in order to ensure that the Board reflects the breadth of NHA membership. Two additional officers serve as ex officio members of the Board: the immediate past president (with vote) and NHA's executive director (without vote). NHA's Director and the Immediate Past President also serve on the Board. The Board of Directors determines NHA policies.
