On the Public Purposes of Education in a Democratic Society was the first of two Congressional briefing sessions of the National Humanities Alliance made possible with generous support from the Rockefeller Foundation. The briefing was held on December 6, 1993. Panel participants included Amy Gutman and Michael S. McPherson, with Introductory Remarks by Catherine E. Rudder. A final paper was issued in 1994.
