April 30, 2010 –The current issue of Liberal Education, a journal of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, features articles on the changing role of the humanities in today’s academy. Pieces by Helen Vendler, Dan Edelstein, and Leslie Berlowitz, discuss the humanities and the arts, innovation and the economy, and the case for data collection in the humanities. David Berry, Gerald Graff, and Cary Nelson also examine contemporary challenges such as teaching the humanities at community colleges, organizational practices at universities that undermine learning, and reliance on contingent faculty.
