March 31, 2010 - Congressmen David Price (D-NC) and Thomas Petri (R-WI) submitted a Dear Colleague letter addressed to Chairman Moran and Ranking Member Simpson of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies on March 19. The letter, signed by 88 members of Congress, requested $232.5 million in FY 2011 funding for the National Endowment for the Humanities. The letter also details the agency’s important work and states that current demand for humanities project support far exceeds funding availability. NEH did not receive any funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and President Obama proposed a $7.2 million cut to the agency’s program funds for FY 2011.
