December 9, 2009 - On December 3, David Ferriero delivered his first State of the Archives address to National Archives & Records Administration staff. Archivist Ferriero provided information about his background and varied experiences. He also detailed challenges facing the Archives. Chief among his priorities for the agency are: addressing the challenges associated with electronic records, security of collections, processing and declassifying records quickly and efficiently, the future of the Presidential Library System, building a virtual "archives without walls," engaging stakeholders, and investing in staff. The Archivist concluded by saying that he planned to discuss space, preservation needs, technology infrastructure, and other issues at another time.
