Humanities Alliance Issues Statement on the Passing of Senator Kennedy

The National Humanities Alliance mourns the loss of Senator Edward M. Kennedy, a true advocate for the humanities, academic, and cultural communities.  Among his many legislative actions, Senator Kennedy was a co-sponsor of the 1965 legislation that created the National Endowments for the Arts and the Humanities.  He was also a founding member, and Chair, of the Senate Cultural Caucus.

The National Humanities Alliance recognized Senator Kennedy’s public contributions to the humanities with its Distinguished Service Award in 2000.

We extend our condolences to his family, friends, and staff.
