July 28, 2010 – On Monday, July 26, the National Archives unveiled the Federal Register 2.0 website (FR 2.0). The new site is designed to be user-friendly and encourage citizens to participate in the democratic process. According to an Archives press release, the new site is “similar to a daily web newspaper, with a clear layout and new tools to guide readers to the most popular topics and relevant documents.” The new navigation and search tools at FR 2.0 aim to highlight each agency’s significant rules.
The FR 2.0 concept originated with Open Government advocates and was later advanced by the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy. FR 2.0 is currently posted as an unofficial prototype on FederalRegister.gov to gather public feedback and may be approved as an official edition in 2011.
Additional information is available on the National Archives website.
