January 29, 2010 - NEH Chairman Jim Leach made three additional stops this month on his "American Civility Tour." During the week of January 11-15, the Chairman visited Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina. This fall, he also visited New Hampshire and Maine as part of the tour.
At the November meeting of the Federation of State Humanities Councils, Chairman Leach first announced his intention to commence this tour. He said:
"In a political setting that is bordering on a civility crisis at home and a civilization crisis abroad, it is my intention to launch on behalf of the NEH a 'civility tour,' visiting every state in the union and helping initiate discussions about the state of American civility."
