House Update
On Thursday, June 16, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the FY 2010 Interior-Environment spending bill. The legislation includes an increase of $15 million for the National Endowment for the Humanities over the FY 2009 enacted level for the agency. The NEH is currently funded at $155 million for FY 2009. The House increase would bring FY 2010 funding for the agency up to $170 million. The House figure does not include the President’s recommendation to transfer the National Capital Arts & Cultural Affairs program to the NEH.

Senate Update
The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies met briefly on Tuesday, June 23 to markup their FY 2010 spending bill. The bill includes a total of $161.3 million for both the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts, an increase of $6.3 million above the 2009 enacted level for each agency and $8.7 million below the level approved by the House.
The full Senate Appropriations Committee marked up on Thursday, June 25 with the same figure. Programmatic allocations have not yet been released by the committee but at this time are assumed to follow the
President’s request.
