Senate Confirms Two New Members to National Council on the Humanities

The U.S. Senate confirmed Rolena Klahn Adorno and Marvin Krislov on November 5, 2009 as the newest members of the National Council on the Humanities. Nominated by President Obama in July, their terms will expire on January 26, 2014. Adele Logan Alexander, nominated on September 25, is still awaiting confirmation.

The National Council on the Humanities will hold public and private meetings in Washington, DC on November 12-13.  This will be the first council meeting since Jim Leach became Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The National Council on the Humanities is a board of 26 private citizens charged, by statute, with (1) advising the Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities with respect to Endowment policies, programs, and procedures, and with (2) reviewing grant applications and making recommendations to the Chairman.  National Council members are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. They serve staggered, six-year terms.
