July 1 meeting to take place at 2pm in 2154 RHOB
June 30, 2010 – The Information Policy, Census, and National Archives Subcommittee of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will mark up pending legislation on July 1 at 2:00pm in 2154 RHOB. The Subcommittee plans to address draft legislation to reauthorize the National Historical Publications & Records Commission (NHPRC). Chairman Clay (D-MO) has introduced a five-year reauthorization bill (H.R. 1556) that proposes a doubling of the NRPRC authorization level, which has not been increased in more than a decade. Supporters of Clay’s bill would like to see the Commission’s current authorization level of $10 million extended to $20 million.
This mark up follows a contentious subcommittee hearing that took place on June 9. At that hearing, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) took issue with NHPRC grant activities and referenced the Commission’s placement on the Republican Whip’s “You Cut” website. The National Humanities Alliance submitted a written statement for the June 9 hearing. The NHA statement is available here.
