Thanksgiving Appropriations Update

Congress leaves for Thanksgiving recess with work left on FY 2010 spending bills (originally posted November 25)

President Obama signed the FY 2010 Interior spending bill on October 30, 2009 along with a second continuing resolution that will allow the federal government to continue operating through December 18, while work on remaining spending bills is completed for the fiscal year that began October 1.

This measure provides funding of $167.5 million for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). This represents an increase of $12.5 million (8.1%) over the FY 2009 enacted level of $155 million. The amount also includes an increase of $5.6 million for national competitive grant programs (e.g., Research, Preservation & Access) over the FY 2009 level.

Final bills are still pending for other agencies with significant humanities/social science funding:
Congress is expected to return to work on these issues next week, in order to meet the continuing resolution's December 18 deadline.
